sooo...apparently a whole bunch of swimmers have gotten punished for publishing rants against the coaches (or more specifically, a certain "bl"-- i would like to know how the true identity of bl was found out...who was the TRAITOR), and threatened with suspension from the club.

this really pisses me off, because people seem to be forgetting that the very purpose of blogs are supposed to be a way of broadcasting your own unsensored opinions. the positive effect of blogs can be seen through numerous political blogs that raise public consciousness on issues that normal newspapers are too scared to touch upon.

how can the club regulate something so obviously out of its jurisdiction? the school could never expel me on the grounds that i wrote about a teacher in this blog...and the same concept applies to swimming. of course, i dont think you should be slandering a coach's name out of malice by writing LIES about them (which would constitute as malice), but there is a differece between making up stories and simply stating your own OPINION. and this is a really good stress reliever, yes? its not like whats being published is any different from what is said in the locker rooms anyway!

the bigger problem here is the lack of respect for this coach. on other teams ive been on, swimmers frequently bitch about the coach, labelling him a "sadist" or "asshole", but they still respect and listen to him. this particular coach, i feel, has lost respect from the swimmers due to his condescending attitude to us...if he doesnt respect us, then obviously we wont respect him! the whole, "I AM YOUR COACH AND HAVE SUPREME AUTHORITY, YOU MUST LISTEN TO ME!!!!" attitude is not only immature, but very old school. sometimes i kindoff feel bad because i know he's trying really hard to be a good coach..but then i hear some of the inappropriate remarks he makes to swimmers..and all sympathy goes "wooosh" away.

i know i will very likely get into trouble for posting this..especially since everyone else has been scared into deleting their old posts. but i firmly believe that i have the right to state my own opinion on MY blog, and if you dont like it, DONT READ IT. its so obviously, really.
thats it for tonight folks.
Michelle.
